On August 30th, China Mobile officially launched China's first domestically developed reconfigurable 5G RF transceiver chip, "Pofeng 8676." This chip can be widely used in core 5G network equipment such as cloud base stations, pole base stations, and home base stations. This achievement in core independent innovation marks a crucial breakthrough from scratch, filling the domestic gap in this field and effectively enhancing the autonomy and controllability of China's 5G network core equipment.

The "Pofeng 8676" chip has already been successfully integrated into the complete equipment of several leading partners and will play an important role in the upcoming phase of 5G low-cost, high controllability commercial network construction, represented by cloud base stations, pole base stations, and home base stations.

The RF transceiver chip acts as a translator, facilitating the high-speed conversion between analog and digital signals. The "Pofeng 8676" chip employs a reconfigurable architecture design, allowing for the reconfiguration of core specifications, module algorithms, and functionalities. This enables versatile applications and contributes to cost reduction and scalability.

The RF transceiver chip acts as a "translator" between radio waves and digital signals and is a key component in 5G network devices. Taking on the responsibility of the leader in the mobile information modern industrial chain, China Mobile established a chip research and development joint laboratory in 2021 and carried out the development of the "Pofeng 8676" reconfigurable 5G RF transceiver chip, covering the entire process from chip specification definition, front-end and back-end design, simulation verification, performance tuning, to complete system integration.

According to reports, China Mobile fully leveraged its deep understanding of networks and devices as an operator and based the chip specification indicators on its self-developed industry-leading system RF dual-link simulation platform. This laid an important foundation for the chip's large-scale application.

To adapt to the application needs of multiple frequency bands, modes, and station types, the research team at China Mobile Research Institute innovatively proposed a reconfigurable technology architecture. It supports flexible matching of important specification parameters such as signal bandwidth, spurious suppression frequency points, and depth. The module algorithms such as digital pre-distortion and peak shaving can be flexibly adjusted, and incremental functions such as baseband shaping filtering and equalization filtering can be dynamically loaded. By optimizing and reorganizing these architectures, the chip breaks through the performance bottleneck of individual components with system integration innovation, creating a product that meets international advanced levels while possessing differentiated competitive advantages such as low cost, low power consumption, and multi-functionality.
