As static is a natural phenomenon, it can’t be eradicated altogether. Electrostatic discharge occurs when two electrically charged objects come into contact with one another. The electricity flows between the objects to balance the charge between them, often with enough power to create visible arcs. Therefore, professional products should be used for prevent problems caused by static electricity. Human are major generators of static electricity, so the best solution to address this problem is to wear specially designed ESD garment.

ESD

ESD clothing refers to garments that are designed to protect the wearer and sensitive electronic components from damage caused by electrostatic discharge (ESD). ESD clothing is typically made from materials with low electrical resistance, which helps to prevent the buildup of static electricity on the surface of the clothing. ESD clothing can come in many forms, including lab coats, smocks, jackets, shirts, pants, hats, gloves, shoe covers, and aprons.

Most everyday clothing is electrically insulated or isolated from the body. This means that static charges that build up on the fabric won’t necessarily pass to the skin and then to the ground. ESD clothing is specifically designed to stop the static that builds up on fabric from generating an electrostatic discharge or creating other issues associated with static.

ESD clothing can be divided into two broad categories: dissipative and conductive. Dissipative materials have a higher resistance, typically between 1MΩ to 10^9Ω, and are designed to safely and slowly drain charges away from the wearer or item being protected. Conductive materials have a lower resistance, typically less than 1MΩ, and provide rapid discharge of static electricity.

ESD clothing is an important measure to prevent ESD damage and ensure the safety and reliability of electronic components and devices in various industries.
