OUTLINE:
Huawei Mate60 Series Surprisingly Released: Is 5G Making a Comeback?
The Huawei Mate60 is set to become one of the highly anticipated flagship smartphones of this autumn, competing with the likes of the Apple iPhone 15 and showcasing exceptional performance.
On August 29th, Huawei suddenly released the Huawei Mate 60 Pro with a 12+512GB version priced at 6999 yuan. On August 30th, the Huawei Mate 60 Standard Edition was also launched on the official store, and pre-orders with a deposit were opened simultaneously, with a price of 5999 yuan for the 12GB+512GB version.
The Mate60 boasts advanced technology and outstanding performance, allowing users to enjoy a smoother and more efficient experience in their daily use. The Mate 60 Pro supports a range of intelligent features, including "Lingxi" communication, automatic induction quick payment, AI remote control, and dynamic expressions.
The much-anticipated 5G version has no official official information yet. However, judging from the speed test pictures posted on the Internet, the uplink and downlink speeds have reached the 5G standard (download 582Mbps, upload 115Mbps), and it is speculated that the domestic 5G baseband is used.
The Kirin chip used to be the soul of Huawei mobile phones, the most differentiated competitiveness of Huawei mobile phones, and the most appealing trump card of Huawei mobile phones to consumers, but now it has not been iteratively updated for nearly three years.
The processor model of Huawei Mate60 Pro cannot be determined for the time being, and multiple online pictures show Kirin 9000s. This chip, which has been rumored for a long time, has never revealed its true face. Some whistleblowers who have already used the real phone claim that it is an overclocked version of the Kirin 9000.
According to netizens' teardown analysis, the Huawei Mate60 Pro's CPU is labeled as 2035-CN, suggesting that it may have been produced by SMIC (Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation) in the 35th week of 2020.
As for the manufacturing process, although Geekbench 5 indicates it as 5nm, industry experts speculate that the Kirin 9000s is likely based on SMIC's N+1 process or the newer N+2 process, which is roughly comparable to TSMC's 7nm process.
It is very likely that Huawei has realized the return of the Kirin chip, and also the return of 5G. As for whether there is a 5G version, there is no way to know it yet, and we have to wait for the press conference to see the outcome.
Now, Let's take a look at the differences between these two versions:
1/Appearance:
In terms of design, they both adopt the same curved splicing design.
The main difference between the two lies in the front screen. The Huawei Mate 60 Standard Edition is equipped with a flat display and features a centered single punch-hole design.
The Huawei Mate 60 Pro comes with a curved four-curved screen. The front top area of the screen features a triple punch-hole design for the cameras, and it can be covered with a software option in the settings.
2/Camera:
The Huawei Mate60 standard version features a 50MP Ultra-Sensing camera (with an aperture range of F1.4~F4.0 and OIS optical image stabilization), a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera (with an aperture of F2.2), and a 12MP periscope telephoto camera (with an aperture of F3.4 and OIS optical image stabilization). It supports autofocus. For the front camera, it has a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera with an aperture of F2.4.
In comparison, the Huawei Mate60 Pro features a 50MP Ultra-Sensing camera (with an aperture range of F1.4~F4.0 and OIS optical image stabilization), a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera (with an aperture of F2.2), and a 48MP Super Macro telephoto camera (with an aperture of F3.0, OIS optical image stabilization, and autofocus). For the front camera, it has a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera with an aperture of F2.4, as well as a 3D depth-sensing camera.
3/Security Levels for Facial Recognition:
The Mate60 can only perform regular facial recognition and does not reach the level required for payment recognition.
The Mate60 Pro is equipped with a 3D depth-sensing lens, which enables more secure facial recognition and theoretically supports payment recognition.
4/Communicative Function:
The Huawei Mate60 supports the BeiDou satellite messaging feature, which allows users to send and receive short messages via satellite.
The Huawei Mate60 Pro supports the Thuraya satellite calling feature, which enables users to make phone calls via satellite.
5/Battery & Charging:
The Huawei Mate60 Pro has a battery capacity of 5000mAh, while the Mate60 has a slightly smaller capacity of 4750mAh.
In terms of charging speed, the standard version features 66W wired fast charging, while the Pro version comes with 88W wired fast charging. Both models also support 50W wireless fast charging.
The expected release of the Mate 60 Pro and its subsequent new models signifies a steady comeback of Huawei's high-end Android smartphones. It also highlights the successful breakthrough in the company's self-developed chips. These developments may bring about improvements in the demand for Huawei's supply chain.
We are eagerly anticipating the upcoming showdown between Huawei and Apple, even though the iPhone 15 series is still two weeks away from being revealed. Let us wait and see, Huawei Mate 60 Series vs iPhone 15: The Ultimate Showdown of Flagship Smartphones!
