Description
Description
The SN6505x is a low-noise, low-EMI push-pull transformer driver that was intended primarily for tiny form factor, isolated power supplies. It is powered by a 2.25 V to 5 V DC power source and drives low-profile, center-tapped transformers. Slew rate control of the output switch voltage and Spread Spectrum Clocking are used to achieve ultra-low noise and EMI (SSC).
The SN6505x is made up of an oscillator and a gate drive circuit that gives complementary output signals to ground-referenced N-channel power switches. To assure start-up under strong loads, the device features two 1-A Power-MOSFET switches.
The switching clock can also be supplied externally to allow for correct placement of switcher harmonics or when using numerous transformer drivers. Internal safeguards include 1.7 A current limiting, under-voltage lockout, thermal shutdown, and break-before-make circuits. With large load capacitors, the SN6505x offers a soft-start feature that prevents significant inrush current during power up.
The SN6505A has a 160 kHz internal oscillator for low-emission applications, while the SN6505B has a 420 kHz internal oscillator for improved efficiency and a smaller transformer footprint.
The SN6505x is packaged in a 6-pin SOT23/DBV package.
The device's operation is specified for temperatures ranging from –55°C to 125°C.
